2018 LSS State of the Union from President John Kotovsky

The LSS mission began 160 years ago and was built on the efforts of many. Through the years, we have adapted to change to meet our challenges, but never have we wavered in our mission. With faith to inspire us and hearts to serve, we continually put people first through responsible stewardship and service excellence.

In 2018, as we celebrate 160 years of serving seniors, the theme “Building on the Basics –Forward to the Future” rings true. New teamwork efforts are already shaping our future by truly putting people first and creating new synergies among them. Mission integration will take it a step further, by folding our Christian Core Values into our daily work, thereby tying every person – and every task – to the LSS mission.

In 2018, we will be inviting each employee “to the table” for a series of Finance/Operations calls. These quarterly calls will bring employees up to date on The State of LSS on a regular basis, as measured by these Key Performance Indicators:

  • Reductions in Employee Turnover
  • Reductions in losses from REACH
  • Improved Assisted Living Margins
  • Expense Reductions
  • Revenue Increases

It is my hope that regular reporting on the operational performance of LSS will add clarity and relevance to our work as we serve older adults. In addition, a company-wide online suggestion box will launched in the first quarter, encouraging employees to share cost savings ideas with senior leadership.

As our organization grows, I am reminded that the LSS “mission field” stretches far beyond our senior living communities. To that end, you will see LSS carrying its Christian Core Values into the greater community this year. Already, we are engaging with our board, our lawmakers, the media, and other senior living providers to advocate for those Missouri seniors affected by Medicaid cuts. In this effort, as in all others, we are driven by our mission of helping older adults live life to the fullest. As we “Build on the Basics” this year, I look “Forward to the Future” with all of you.

Thank you for your service. The best is yet to come!
