Breeze Park Petitions for, Gets Safer Intersection

In late-July, construction began at the intersection of Highway 94 and South Breeze in Weldon Spring. While no one likes to deal with the hassle of construction right outside their home or work, residents, and staff at Breeze Park are welcoming the updates.

“After several accidents at this intersection that leads to our community, we knew we had to do something to protect our residents, families, and staff,” says Tammy Hempen, Executive Director of Breeze Park. “We’ve been petitioning the Department of Transportation and are thrilled that they are taking steps to make this a safer turn.”

To improve the safety of the intersection, MODOT is creating J-turns. A J-turn is a specialized intersection where, rather than crossing traffic, motorists turn right, merge into the left lane, and then make a U-turn at a designated point. J-turns have been proven to greatly reduce right-angle crashes, which are most responsible for fatalities and serious injuries at intersections.

This project is anticipated to be complete by late fall.
