Find Time for Awe this Christmas

Christmas greetings! This season is full of joy and hope as we prepare for the celebration of the birth of our Savior. In preparation, I imagine many of us put up a Christmas Tree, decorated with lights. It’s believed that Martin Luther, who began the Protestant movement and ultimately organized the Lutheran Church, was the first to add light to a tree with lighted candles. The story goes that he was walking home one winter evening, working on a sermon for an upcoming service. When he looked around he was in awe by the stars twinkling amidst the evergreens. Upon his arrival home, he brought an evergreen into his house and wired lit candles to the branches to share this simple joy with his family.

With the holiday gatherings, the lists, the expectations, it can be hard for us to look around and let ourselves be in awe. There is so much to be in awe of during the Christmas season, especially as we celebrate God’s love for us in the gift of his only Son.

It is my hope for you this Christmas that you find the time to look up from your busy day and let yourself be in awe of God’s love for you.

Thank you for all that you do to help Lutheran Senior Services fulfill our Christian Mission of serving older adults. You are valued and appreciated for the work you do.

Merry CHRISTmas!
